DESCRIPTION

All of the hard and important work has been done for you—so that you can spend time enjoying the many wonderful things that Merida has to offer just a few blocks from your door—and at a very reasonable price.

This is a genuine Merida Colonial, dating back 100 years, with tall 18 foot ceilings and 10 foot original inner doors throughout. The sense of presence in the large rooms with 18 foot ceilings in truly unique. And there’s one room with “just” 13 foot ceilings for a total of six rooms with two bathrooms (we have it easily arranged with two bedrooms). The house measures approximately 2220 square feet or 244.26 square meters.

There are brand new, cedar front doors, new fans throughout, a large mini-split air conditioner in the kitchen that virtually cools the entire house, skylights in several rooms. The house has standard grounded plugs and 220 volt electricity service. There is a new oversize 1,100 liter tinaco on the roof with a new water pressure system and water pump. There is attractive original pasta tile in the four front rooms.

The large, well lit kitchen has a brand new Westinghouse 5 burner gas cooktop, an island with broad counter tops, plenty of covered storage space and ample room for your other kitchen electric applainces. A refrigerator is also included in the price.

There are many “little touches” that make the house special including the antique hammock hooks, a tiled whirlpool in the courtyard with an outdoor shower, a huge Bougainvillea against a beautiful stone wall with local design elements, and a gardenia tree.

You’ll really enjoy a quiet moment with the cool evening breezes in the “great room” with a 13 foot screened glass arch, or gazing a beautiful plants while sitting on your patio with your music in the background as dusk settles in.

You’ll live across the street from a friendly Yucatecan family and live next door to a Mexican couple who will point out things about life in Merida as you begin to learn Spanish. Expats are sprinkled throughout the neighborhood and there are several nice B&B’s very close. And, you won’t have to worry about buses on your street, as this house is NOT on a bus route.

This house has outstanding location. It’s only one block from historic Santaigo Park, which dates back to the 19th century. There is music and dance every Tuesday night at the park. The open-air restaurants there offering a great variety of local food and are open daily. In this community orientated safe park, families eat, play and simply site around until nearly midnight many nights of the week. And there’s an open air vegetable, fruit, and meat market, an ice cream shop, a coffee shop, paint and hardware stores, a small supermarket, 2 drug stores, a 24 hour convenience store, a movie theatre, and, or course, beautiful Santiago church just 2 blocks from your house.

And you are just a short eight block walk to the Plaza Central, with Peon Contreras performance hall, Olimpio art center, Teatro Merida, the Macay Museum, the Galvez market and an unbelieveable amount of cultural, restaurant, and shopping locations. This house is the perfect base from which to begin or continue you life in Merida.
