This beautiful colonial casa near the Paseo de Montejo in downtown MERIDA,Yucatan is the perfect base for exploring the city and all its attractions, the beaches, the caves, museums, ruins, the haciendas and the many ecological reserves. This large townhouse designed by the famous architect Fernando Ancona has been renovated to the highest standard.

There is a garage with remote controlled doors in the property for those guests who wish to hire a car, although a car is not strictly necessary for your daily requirements.

A lovely inner courtyard garden, with a private indigo tiled swimming pool, is surrounded by 18 ft high walls and is totally secluded. Here you can relax on the sun loungers to the sound of cool fountains spilling into the pool. For barbeques or late night cocktails, climb the steps up to the stunning roof terrace.

The three bedrooms are designed for comfort. The hand-carved bed heads, the deep mattresses, large ceiling fans and air conditioning in every bedroom all help to give you a good night’s sleep. Bedding, bath towels and beach towels are all provided and included in the rental cost. All the bedrooms are en suite. There is also a fourth bathroom for visiting guests. All bedrooms have a flat screen television.

The bespoke kitchen has all modern conveniences including dishwasher, central island with hob, air extractor, mounted oven, large American fridge/freezer with icemaker, water purifier, pod coffee maker, toaster kettle, juice extractor and microwave. The washing machine and tumble drier are located in the garage. The kitchen design is modern with granite worktops and hand-painted wood cupboards.

The study doubles up as the fourth bedroom. It has a comfortable sofa bed and chairs. There is also a flat screen television , DVD player and iPod station in this room A landline telephone allows you to make local and emergency calls only. The intercom entry phone system comes to this landline phone and also all the extensions in the house, including the bedrooms. This enables you to speak to the visitor before allowing anyone into the house. Internet access is offered free of charge.

The dining room and sitting room, both air conditioned, are very spacious rooms with pasta tiled floors and 18 foot high walls. A huge comfortable modern sofa and ottoman sit happily with carefully chosen pieces of antique furniture and floor lamps. A huge iron candelabra hangs centre stage. A live palm tree sways up to the beamed ceiling. These rooms are truly breathtaking.

The casa stands in one of the typical narrow side streets fanning out from the famous Paseo de Monteo. Here in the historic district of Merida Centro you discover the true heart of the city. You can delight in the character of the painted colonial facades of the townhouses, all different, some almost derelict, others beautifully restored.

From here you are able to walk to everything you need, including restaurants, bars, boutiques, small art galleries, markets and shops. There is a regular local bus service or you can take the luxurious first class air conditioned coaches from the hotel district for day-trips to Cancun or Chichen Itza.

MERIDA is a popular holiday destination for many reasons, not least because it is one of the safest cities in Mexico and is renowned for its low crime rate and effective police force.
